Proclamation declaring April 4, 2008 "Melvin Pollock Day" in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed to have citizens such as Melvin Pollock who dedicate their lives to the betterment of others; and
WHEREAS, this year marks the momentous occasion of Mel's 90th birthday, and the anniversary of more than 25 years of dedicated service with the Monroeville Arts Council; and
WHEREAS, his commitment to the arts is evident not only in his participation on the Arts Council, but also through his 9-year service as the Chair of the Monroeville Annual Juried Art Show and through his yearly donation of a painting to benefit the Persad Art for AIDS benefit; and
WHEREAS, Mel was also instrumental in implementing the Summer Pops Concert Series that is now more than 25 years old and still going strong at the CCAC Boyce Campus; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his work in the arts, Mel is an active volunteer, contributing his time in the Shepherd Wellness Community; and
WHEREAS, Mel has received multiple well-deserved recognitions, including being named as a Legendary Student of CCAC in 1998 and also being named a Community Champion/Jefferson Award Winner ;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council joins in celebration with all those whose lives have been touched by Mel. Furthermore, the Members of this Council do hereby proclaim April 4, 2008 to be “Melvin Pollock Day” in Allegheny County.
