Proclamation congratulating Pine-Richland Girls' Volleyball player, Ms. Jamel Nicholas, for earning the 2005 Gatorade Pennsylvania Player of the Year Award.

WHEREAS, Ms. Jamel Nicholas has placed her stamp of character and hard work throughout Allegheny County, and is being honored for earning the 2005 Gatorade Pennsylvania Player of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Nicholas is a 5-foot-6 senior and one of the best girls' volleyball players in the state, playing the position of setter and more recently, as an outside hitter for Pine-Richland High School Girls' Volleyball Team; and
WHEREAS, she was a varsity starter since her freshman year and was an all-state player as a ninth-grader; and
WHEREAS, in 2005, she was an integral part of the Pine-Richland High School Girls' Volleyball Team, earning both the WPIAL and PIAA Class AAA Championships; and
WHEREAS, Pine-Richland Girls' Volleyball Head Coach Emily Gerega has spoken very highly of her efforts on the playing field, stating that Jamel is a tremendously competitive player and one of her greatest strengths is her inherent motivation and determination, which has a positive and lasting effect on the rest of the team; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Nicholas accepted a scholarship to Notre Dame before her junior year. She will be joining The Fighting Irish Girls' Volleyball Team which had an outstanding 2005 season and is ranked No. 5 in the country;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize and congratulate Ms. Jamel Nicholas for earning the Gatorade Pennsylvania Player of the Year Award. Her distinguished accomplishment is worthy of our County of Champions, earning the esteem of the citizens of Allegheny County. We commend you for your outstanding effort which serves as an inspiration to us all.
