Proclamation recognizing the Center for Victims of Violence and Crime for their services to the community and declaring February 25, 2009 as "Peace-it-Together Community Initiative Day" in Allegheny County.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Center for Victims of Violence and Crime present its Peace Partner Awards at the Peace-It-Together Community Initiative Reception on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at 5916 Penn Avenue in the heart of East Liberty; and

 

WHEREAS, the Center for Victims of Violence and Crime's mission is to heal trauma, resolve conflict and end violence. These goals are achieved through three major components of the agency: crime victim and witness assistance; conflict resolution, mediation and training services; and the Peace-It-Together Community Initiative; and

 

WHEREAS, the center helps individuals, families, and communities in the city heal from all forms of violence and crime; the organization also teaches and facilitates effective, non-violent ways to resolve disputes through dialog, collaboration and mediation, and it educates the community on the root causes of violence by promoting corresponding wellness, violence prevention, and restorative justice strategies; and

 

WHEREAS, the Peace-it-Together Community Initiative invites all residents of Allegheny County to learn more about the impacts and underlying causes of violence, crime and conflict, and the ways they can support themselves as well as others in personal well-being and healthy lifestyles;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council commends the Center for Victims of Violence and Crime for creating a unique continuum of education, prevention, and intervention services in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Furthermore, this Council declares Wednesday, February 25, 2009 “Peace-it-Together Community Initiative Day” in the County of Allegheny.
