Proclamation honoring the life and legacy of former North Versailles Commissioner Edward "Mickey" McGuire and declaring April 27, 2008 "Mickey McGuire Day" in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania have been blessed with exemplary leaders throughout our history who have made invaluable contributions to our communities, our County and the world; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Edward “Mickey” McGuire's election to the North Versailles Township Board of Commissioners reflected great respect for and confidence in his abilities as a leader and community champion from the voters of North Versailles, for whom he remained steadfast in his dedication in the best tradition of American service; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure as a Commissioner, Mr. McGuire also served as Board Chair; and
WHEREAS, prior to his service on the Board of Commissioners, Mr. McGuire was a longtime employee of Allegheny County, during which time he served as Chief Deputy from 1992 until his retirement from the County in 1997; and
WHEREAS, Mr. McGuire exemplified the true meaning of service in every position that he held, and will be remembered fondly by his family, friends, colleagues and constituents as a true leader;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council wishes to recognize Mr. Edward “Mickey” McGuire for his tremendous contributions to the causes of good government and citizen participation and for representing the citizens of North Versailles with the utmost integrity and professionalism. Furthermore, we hereby proclaim April 27, 2008 to be recognized and celebrated as “Mickey McGuire Day” in Allegheny County.
