Proclamation honoring John Vento for receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Democratic Committee.

Body

WHEREAS, Mr. John Vento, a veteran trade unionist and the former secretary-treasurer of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, has been instrumental in serving the labor movements of our state and nation; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Vento has been a member of community unions, serving as an officer of Local 601 when he worked for Westinghouse Electric and as the director of the AFL-CIO's Western Pennsylvania Committee on Political Education (COPE) for 25 years; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Vento is a veteran of the United States Army, and in 2004 was asked to serve as an advisor on the Board of Directors for the World War II Veterans of Allegheny County; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Vento remains active in the labor movement; he is currently the COPE Director for the Allegheny County Labor Council (ACLC) as well as a member of UFCW Local 23; and

 

WHEREAS, in addition to receiving “Labor's Man of the Year” in 2000 from the ACLC and the “Labor Recognition Award” in 2002 from his peers in the labor community, Mr. Vento received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the Allegheny County Democratic Committee in October 2009;

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, commends the indelible contributions that Mr. John Vento has made throughout his career to the local and national labor movements.  His undeniable fervor and steadfast dedication to the labor movement should be viewed with great pride.  We congratulate him on receiving this great distinction from the Allegheny County Democratic Committee, and we wish him the best of luck in all of his future endeavors.
