WHEREAS, Linden Academy Principal Marcia Cohen is retiring at the conclusion of the 2005 school year, completing a 34 year career in the Pittsburgh Public School system; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Cohen's accomplishments are many and varied, and have helped establish Linden Academy, where she has served as Principal for nine years, as a model magnet school program; and

WHEREAS, under Ms. Cohen's guidance, Linden Academy offers a exceptional academic environment with a particularly outstanding International Studies curriculum; and

WHEREAS, Linden Academy also fosters student development through a wide range of extracurricular activities such as basketball, swimming, track, the Book Buddies program, Energy Patrol, LIFT, safety patrols, instrumental music classes, chorus, the ORFF Ensemble, the Friendship project that functions in collaboration with the Rehabilitation Institute of Pittsburgh, creative movement classes with the Pittsburgh Dance Alloy, the Chess Club and Student Council; and

WHEREAS, under Ms. Cohen's guidance, Linden Academy also has an exceptional support network and resources for parents as evidenced by its Parent School Community Council and activist PTO, as well as by its partnerships with FamilyLinks and other organizations as diverse as the Pittsburgh Dance Alloy and Western PA Conservancy and Garden Club;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize Marcia Cohen for her impact on this community and its youngest citizens; her skill in administering her school has only been surpassed by her devotion to its students. Through her dedication and innovative thinking, she has improved the lives of countless students and their families.
