Proclamation congratulating Mr. Kenneth G. Gormley, law professor at Duquesne University, for being named President of the Allegheny County Bar Association.

WHEREAS, beginning July 1, 2007, Duquesne University Law School professor and former Forest Hills mayor, Kenneth G. Gormley will be the first from academia to serve as President of the Allegheny County Bar Association in its 136-year history; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gormley will also be the only full-time academician who is president of a major metropolitan bar association in the United States; and
WHEREAS, an expert in constitutional law, Mr. Gormley was twice elected to serve on the association's board of governors and has chaired its legislative committee for four years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gormley's experience includes clerking for U.S. District Judge Donald Ziegler; serving as a special clerk to Chief Justice Ralph Cappy on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court; practicing civil litigation; and serving as executive director of the Pennsylvania Reapportionment Commission; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gormley has organized programs that have attracted high-profile figures, such as U.S. Supreme Court justices Sandra Day O'Connor and Samuel Alito, and he has appeared on national radio and television networks as a legal expert;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate Mr. Ken Gormley upon his election as President of the Allegheny County Bar Association. We commend your dedication and commitment to the legal community and the residents of Allegheny County, which serves as an inspiration to us all.
