Proclamation celebrating the Pittsburgh Pride 2008 Pride March and Pride Fest.

WHEREAS, in June of each year, communities throughout the United States commemorate the beginning of the worldwide Gay Rights movement, whose roots can be attributed to the June 1969 Stonewall riots in New York; and
WHEREAS, the Steel-City Stonewall Democrats are the Allegheny County Chapter of the largest National Democratic Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (GLBT) organization in the country; and
WHEREAS, each year, the Steel-City Stonewall Democrats, in conjunction with the Delta Foundation, organize Pittsburgh Pride, a festival celebrating the diversity of the Pittsburgh region; and
WHEREAS, this year, the Steel-City Stonewall Democrats, in conjunction with the Delta Foundation, have expanded Pittsburgh Pride from a one-day festival to a seven-day celebration; and
WHEREAS, on June 22, 2008, over 10,000 attendees are expected to participate in the annual Pride March and Pride Fest, which will last throughout the week of the 22nd; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Pride provides the opportunity for our local legislators, business men and women, and members of the GLBT community to come together to discuss the issues most affecting the GLBT community;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council hereby commends the Steel-City Stonewall Democrats and the Delta Foundation for their commitment to providing a voice for Allegheny County's GLBT community. Furthermore, we join with you in celebration of Pittsburgh Pride 2008.
