Proclamation recognizing the Obediah Cole Foundation for Prostate Cancer for sponsoring the 7th Annual Father's Day Run and Walk to raise awareness for prostate cancer.

 

 

Body

WHEREAS, nearly 186,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year, and, overall, about one in six men has a lifetime risk of being diagnosed with prostate cancer; and

 

WHEREAS, the Obediah Cole Foundation for Prostate Cancer was founded in 2006 by prostate cancer survivors Jerry Bortman, Jerry Livingstone, and former Pittsburgh Steeler Robin Cole; and

 

WHEREAS, the foundation is dedicated to educating people about prostate cancer and to alerting about the importance of early detection; and

 

WHEREAS, the foundation will host its 7th Annual Father's Day 5k/10k Run and Walk on June 21, 2009 at North Shore Park; thousands of people are expected to attend, and the goal to increase awareness about prostate cancer will be achieved; and

 

WHEREAS, because of the efforts of the organization, people have become more aware of the importance of being tested for this deadly disease and they have been able to live longer and healthier lives;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that this Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, recognizes the Obediah Cole Foundation for Prostate Cancer for its continual efforts to raise awareness of prostate cancer.  Furthermore, the Annual Father's Day 5k/10k Run and Walk is a successful event that our County is proud to host. We hope the foundation continues its impressive efforts to fight prostate cancer.
