This Certificate of Recognition is presented to Mr. Russell T. Washington upon the momentous occasion of his 100th birthday. Mr. Washington was born on September 19, 1914 in Culpeper, Virginia. He moved to Pittsburgh at the age of 14 to live with an uncle, and he graduated from Westinghouse High School where he lettered in track. Mr. Washington graduated from Duquesne University, where he became a charter member of the Beta Epsilon Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. After his graduation, Mr. Washington worked for the Pittsburgh Courier as an assistant business manager for 26 years. He also worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Statistics as a statistician for 3 years. For 30 years, Mr. Washington served as an accountant, business manager and controller for the Homewood Brushton Neighborhood Health Center (now known as the Alma Illery Health Center) before retiring in 1969. Mr. Washington married Vera L. Fullum in 1942 and they had one daughter, Dreajean. They are grandparents to two granddaughters and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Washington is an active member of Grace Memorial Presbyterian Church, where he has served as a Trustee and is a current member of the Men's Council.
