Proclamation recognizing Ms. Averie Nichols, a second-grader at Jeffery Primary School in Shaler, for raising more than $2,000 for the Pittsburgh Children's Hospital Foundation in memory of her grandmother.

WHEREAS, Ms. Averie Nichols, in memory of her grandmother who passed away from stage IV lung cancer, partnered with the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation, which through research and supporting patients and families, helps children with cancer; and
WHEREAS, Averie rallied her classmates at Jeffery Primary School to participate in the Wear a Hat for Cancer Day to show that her classmates can make a difference in spreading awareness and raising money for children with cancer; and
WHEREAS, Averie partnered with the Shaler North Hills Library to create hundreds of flyers to distribute to local businesses and organizations for her campaign efforts; and
WHEREAS, Averie created a web page to reach the masses in voicing awareness for her campaign; and
WHEREAS, through Averie's combined organized fundraising efforts, more than $2,000 has been donated to the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation, and the foundation has agreed to match those funds;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize Ms. Averie Nichols for her inspiring display of initiative, selfless dedication, and compassionate heart for others in need. Your kindness and diligence is a reminder to us all that anyone can make a difference in our community. We thank you for dedicating your time and effort to enriching the lives of others.
