Proclamations commending the Penn State Cooperative Extension for volunteering to create and sustain the North Park Demonstration Garden.

 

 

Body

WHEREAS, organizations throughout Allegheny County strive to beautify our community by loaning their aesthetic expertise to our parks; and

 

WHEREAS, the North Park Demonstration Garden was established in 1990 to showcase flowering plants that grow well in our climate and soils; and

 

WHEREAS, the garden includes annual display beds, perennial beds, an herb garden and a pollinator garden that exhibit to the public how maintaining the health of these plants and their pollinators is important to our area; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2009, approximately 1,000 annuals were planted by Master Gardeners of the Penn State Cooperative Extension over the course of 350 hours; and

 

WHEREAS, the Master Gardeners are specially trained individuals who study under the Penn State Master Gardeners Volunteer Program; the group has greatly enhanced the beauty of North Park and trained the public to garden professionally;

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby commends the volunteers who help maintain the North Park Demonstration Garden.  We thank everyone involved for beautifying the park and for promoting proper gardening to the residents of our County.
