Proclamation naming October 4-5, 2014 as "Young Playwrights Days" in Allegheny County.
Body...
WHEREAS, for 40 years, City Theatre, located on Pittsburgh's historic South Side, has provided an artistic home for the development and production of contemporary plays to Pittsburgh audiences; and
WHEREAS, the Young Playwrights Program, City Theatre's comprehensive, dynamic approach to arts education serving teachers and students in the Pittsburgh community and beyond, fulfills Common Core and state academic standards, including English/Language Arts and Arts & Humanities; and
WHEREAS, four major components of the program include the Young Playwrights Teacher Institute, In-School Workshops, the Young Playwrights Contest, and the Young Playwrights Festival; and
WHEREAS, for the last 15 years, the Young Playwrights Program has worked with thousands of students and produced over 100 original one-act plays by middle and high school writers;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize City Theatre's Young Playwrights Program for teaching students the art and craft of playwriting, and this Council declares Saturday, October 4th and Sunday, October 5th, 2014 as "Young Playwrights Days" in Allegheny County.
