Proclamation celebrating the men and women in the Department of Public Works and declaring the week of May 17-23, 2009 as Public Works Week in Allegheny County.

 

Body

WHEREAS, public works infrastructure, facilities and services are all of vital importance to the health, safety and well-being of the people of Allegheny County; and

 

WHEREAS, such facilities and services could not be provided without the dedicated efforts of public works professionals, engineers and administrators; and

 

WHEREAS, representing state and local units of government, these professionals are responsible for designing, building, operating, and maintaining the transportation, water supply, sewage and refuse disposal systems, public buildings and other structures and facilities that serve our citizens; and

 

WHEREAS, it is in the public interest for County citizens and civic leaders to gain knowledge of and to maintain a progressive interest in the public works needs and programs of their respective communities; and

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council hereby designates the week of May 17th to May 23rd of 2009 as National Public Works Week in Allegheny County.  Furthermore, we urge all our people to join with representatives of governmental agencies and the American Public Works Association to recognize the substantial contributions that the professionals of the Allegheny County Department of Public Works have made to our health and welfare.
