Proclamation recognizing and commending Mr. Edward W. Christy for his dedication and commitment to workers’ rights for the Pennsylvania State Education Association.

 

Body

WHEREAS, long and distinguished service throughout one's life deserves the accolades of our citizenry; especially when one devotes so much time to enhancing the quality of life in his community; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Edward W. Christy has placed his stamp of character and hard work throughout Allegheny County, as a community and labor rights activist; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Christy, graduated from John Carroll University in 1969 and began a career in education, teaching students in the Erie School District; and

 

WHEREAS, from 1974 to 1976, he served as President of the Erie Education Association, and from 1976 to 1979, he was a successful leader for UniServ at New York Education Association; and

 

WHEREAS, in April of 1979 he became the UniServ Representative for the Pennsylvania State Education Association, becoming very active in the Staff Organization, serving on Representative Council, serving as Treasurer and as a member of the Bargaining Team; and

 

WHEREAS, Ed became a Region Field Director in August 1994, managing a large number of UniServ Representatives and coordinating efforts for the Western region of the Pennsylvania State Education Association;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council hereby recognizes and commends Ed Christy for his unparalleled leadership, dedication and commitment to workers' rights, the field of education, his community and Allegheny County as a whole.  Furthermore, we wish him success in all future endeavors.
