Proclamation honoring the late Lance Corporal William R. Prom following the dedication of the Medal of Honor Plaza at Shaler Intermediate School.

 

Body

WHEREAS, O'Hara Township Police Officer Keith Carney, a father of two who previously served as an officer for 12 years before coming to O'Hara, has consistently proven himself to be hero while protecting his community; and

 

WHEREAS, on the evening of August 11, 2007, Officer Carney demonstrated an act of true selflessness and bravery; and

 

WHEREAS, while patrolling just after midnight, Officer Carney received a call alerting him to a house fire on Kittanning Pike; and

 

WHEREAS, the first to arrive at the scene, Officer Carney noticed a large amount of smoke come from the upper floor of the house, where one resident still remained; and

 

                     WHEREAS, Officer Carney, setting aside any concern for his own life, ran into the house to save a teenage resident who was trapped on the second floor; and

 

                     WHEREAS, after kicking the door open, Officer Carney was able to escort the girl out of the housing, saving her life;

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council wishes to commend O'Hara Township Police Officer Keith Carney for your brave actions on the evening of August 11, 2007.  Not only did you save the life of a local resident, but through your act of leadership, you have proven yourself to be an inspiration to the Members of this Council and to the residents of our great County of Allegheny.
