Proclamation designating February 27, 2008 as "Peace-it-Together Community Initiative Day" in Allegheny County.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Center for Victims of Violence and Crime will present its Peace Partner Awards at the Peace-It-Together Community Initiative Open House and Reception on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at their new, renovated space at 5916 Penn Avenue in the heart of East Liberty; and

 

WHEREAS, The Center for Victims of Violence and Crime's mission is to advance, support, and promote the purpose of helping individuals, families and communities survive the trauma of violence and crime by offering victims' advocacy services, crisis intervention counseling, and community education programs that address the causes and impacts of violence, as well as practice, model, teach, and promote the resolution of differences through mediation, collaboration and restorative justice; and

 

WHEREAS, the Peace-it-Together Community Initiative invites all residents of Allegheny County to learn more about the impacts and underlying causes of violence, crime, and conflict and ways they can support themselves as well as others in personal well-being and healthy lifestyles;

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council wishes to recognize and commend the Center for Victims of Violence and Crime for creating a unique continuum of education, prevention, and intervention services in Southwestern Pennsylvania which reduce the proliferation of violence and its impact in our community while increasing capacity for collaboration, healing, and peace.  Be it further resolved, that Allegheny County Council does hereby declare Wednesday, February 27, 2008 “Peace-it-Together Community Initiative Day” in the County of Allegheny.
