Title

Proclamation congratulating the Pittsburgh Passion for winning the 2007 National Women's Football Association Championship.

 

Body

WHEREAS, since March 2002, the Pittsburgh Passion, a professional women's football team, has been competing as a member of the Northern Conference of the National Women's Football Association (NWFA); and

 

WHEREAS, this July the Pittsburgh Passion defeated the Columbus Comets in a shut-out at White's Creek High School football field in Nashville, Tennessee earning the title of the 2007 National Women's Football Association Champions; and

 

WHEREAS, the Passion consists of a large roster of more than 60 players and they have averaged about 3,000 fans per home game this season; and                     

 

WHEREAS, the average Passion player is in her mid-30's and came to the team with natural athleticism and previous sports playing experience; and

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Passion practices at George Cupples (South) Stadium in Pittsburgh and is led by Head Coach Ron Coder, a former NFL player;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate the Pittsburgh Passion for earning the 2007 National Women's Football Association Championship.  This Council commends the management, players and coaches of the Pittsburgh Passion and recognizes their distinguished accomplishment which is worthy of our County of Champions.
