Motion expressing the Sense of Council of Allegheny County commending the World War II Veterans of Allegheny County Memorial Fund, Inc. for its work to erect a memorial to honor the men and women of Allegheny County who served during World War II with duty, honor, and love of country; and, further supports its efforts to pursue funding to support this worthwhile project which will bring much to the residents of Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, the World War II Veterans of Allegheny County Memorial Fund, Inc. is striving to honor the men and women from Allegheny County who served in World War II by erecting a memorial that symbolizes their duty, honor, and love of country; and
WHEREAS, land has been donated by the City of Pittsburgh to the Memorial Fund at Allegheny Landing, a section of the Roberto Clemente Park between the Sixth and Seventh Street bridges on the North Short of Pittsburgh, along the Allegheny River; and
WHEREAS, the design of the memorial is intended to recognize those who died, those who served, the corporations who responded to the national threat, and local organizations who made a difference; and
WHEREAS, the memorial will consist of two plazas at each end of a walkway flanked by trees offering a place to contemplate; at the larger of the two plazas, an illuminated sixty-five foot stainless steel tower will attract visitors to an enclosure of walls in the form of a five-pointed start - the “Call to Duty;” and
WHEREAS, the walls of the memorial will be made of steel and glass; on the walls of the star an engraved timeline of the war will be interwoven with stories of Pittsburgh and the efforts of those who served from Allegheny County; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the World War II Veterans of Allegheny County Memorial Fund, Inc. has been meeting regularly to make this dream a reality, and is now ready to embark on a capital campaign; and
