Allegheny County Council is proud to present this Certificate of Recognition to Ms. Elaine Effort for her excellence in journalism. Ms. Effort began her career with Pittsburgh KQV 1410 AM news radio in 1973, but took a six year break to get married and have a family. Ms. Effort returned to the station in 1983, once her youngest child started kindergarten. Ms. Effort got her start in broadcasting at the University of Michigan student radio station. Her first paying job was at WUOM in Ann Arbor.  She earned a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in journalism, both from the University of Michigan. Ms. Effort is the host of a weekly public affairs program called Pittsburgh Profiles which highlights positive things that are taking place in the African-American community. Ms. Effort is a founding member of the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation and its annual workshop to benefit high school students. Ms. Effort is an active member of the Church of the Holy Cross in Homewood. We hereby recognize and honor Ms. Effort for her reliable, thorough and thoughtful coverage of various issues important to the citizens of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.
