Proclamation recognizing the grand opening of the Clairton Boxing Club and thanking the Club's founders, coaches, benefactors, city officials and the community.

WHEREAS, the Clairton Boxing Club held its official grand opening on June 22, 2007 in a renovated building located at 325 Large Avenue, Clairton, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, the Clairton Boxing Club was a community effort and the following individuals were instrumental in helping open the gym: volunteer director John Hodish, a Clairton resident and long-time boxing trainer, volunteer coaches Tristan Geletko and the Rev. Sheldon Stoudemire, both former U.S. Army Rangers and boxers, local boxing promoter and founder of the Western Pennsylvania Police Athletic Association Jimmy Cvetic, Clairton Mayor Domenic Virgona and the Clairton Council, and Michael Farnan, owner of the Village Inn in Clairton, who contributed funding and equipment to the gym; and
WHEREAS, the organized athletic opportunity for young people will help steer them away from problems on the streets and getting into trouble, and instead teach them how to get their bodies in shape, focus their efforts, set goals and compete in the ring; and
WHEREAS, the coaches and organizers of the Clairton Boxing Club serve as mentors for these young people and will help lead them onto the paths to higher education and professional success;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize the Clairton Boxing Club upon the momentous occasion of their grand opening. This distinguished endeavor and accomplishment is worthy of our County of Champions, earning the esteem of the citizens of Allegheny County. We commend your beneficial guidance and influence upon young adults, which serves as an inspiration to this Council and the residents of Clairton and Allegheny County.
