Proclamation commending the LJS Group for creating statewide minority-focused publications over their 47-year history.

WHEREAS, LJS Group, the Pittsburgh-based, African-American owned and operated company, was founded 47 years ago by Luther J. Sewell, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, throughout its distinguished history, the group has produced two landmark publications. Talk Magazine and Minority Opinion have broadened social horizons by distributing minorities' focused perspectives about education, health care, business and government to state minority markets; and
WHEREAS, the company offers minorities opportunities to network and to celebrate cultural history and achievement by hosting state-wide events and community relations activities like the Annual African-American Weekend, the Elected Official/Political Activists Conference, the Pennsylvania African-American State Convention, and the Civil Rights Breakfast, where the Honorable K. Leroy Irvis and Byrd R. Brown Civil Rights Award was previously given; and
WHEREAS, the group also hosts the annual Minority Achievers Awards Luncheon, which recognizes minorities who have contributed significantly to their professions and have greatly impacted our society; and
WHEREAS, over its 47-year lifespan, LJS has managed over 25 political campaigns and has acted as a marketing agency for major corporations and public institutions interested in reaching the African-American consumer market;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that this Council, on behalf of the citizens of the Allegheny County, commend Mr. Sewell and his wife, Roxanne, President of the LJS Group, for creating a constructive, statewide atmosphere where minorities are able to grow and progress into the future. Furthermore, we wish you the greatest success in all your future endeavors.
