Certificate of Recognition honoring the 100th anniversary of the Homeville Volunteer Fire Company.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is home to historic volunteer fire departments that have maintained a collective dedication to serving our community; and
WHEREAS, Homeville Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 has continually answered the challenging call to protect our county, and throughout November 2009 the company will celebrate its 100th anniversary of service to our community; and
WHEREAS, over this incredible span of time, many chiefs - from the first chief, David Stevens, to the present chief, David Martin - and many presidents - from the first president, George Wilson, to the current president, William Mattis - have utilized their expertise to supervise the operations of the company and to guide the firefighters who have sacrificed their time to care for the community; and
WHEREAS, with the help of the Ladies Auxiliary, Homeville Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 has sponsored and supported many events and organizations in the area, including sporting teams, boy scout troops, dances, fairs, fish fries, bingo nights and parades; the company's willful participation in the community has enhanced the quality of life for the citizens of Homeville; and
WHEREAS, without the support of the firefighters' families, the fire company would not be possible; we commend these families for understanding the firefighters call to duty and for supporting them in their role;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, honors Homeville Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 upon the monumental occasion of its 100th anniversary. This long-established institution has been supported by hundreds of committed individuals who have continually placed their lives at risk to secure the safety and protection of their neighbors. We hope the company continues to serve Allegheny County for many years to come.
