Title...
Proclamation thanking UPMC Passavant for providing health care to the North Hills community for 50 years.
Body...
WHEREAS, this year, UPMC Passavant will celebrate its 50th year of providing world class health care to the North Hills community; and
WHEREAS, Passavant Hospital, originally called the Pittsburgh Infirmary, was established by Pastor William Alfred Passavant in Lacyville, now the Hill District section of Pittsburgh in 1849; and
WHEREAS, dealing with a decline in patients, and the fact that the city was redeveloping the Hill District to make room for the Civic Arena, the hospital board decided that it was time to move the facility; and
WHEREAS, the doors of Passavant Hospital in the Town of McCandless opened on February 24, 1964, thanks to the collective effort of community members who first worked to "bring it north" and then helped it grow into the innovative, state-of-the-art medical facility that it is today; and
WHEREAS, from the individuals who went door-to-door collecting nickels and dimes to bring the hospital north, to the Passavant Hospital Auxiliary that has raised funds for hospital projects for more than a half-century, to the Passavant Hospital Foundation, which continues to provide funding to take UPMC Passavant into the future, a legacy of caring has been built through the efforts of the entire community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, jointly with Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, does hereby congratulate UPMC Passavant upon the occasion of its 50th anniversary. We recognize and commend the Passavant Hospital Foundation, the Passavant Hospital Auxiliary, and the North Hills community for supporting UPMC Passavant, and we look forward to its continued growth, for many years to come.
