Proclamations from Allegheny County Council and the City of Pittsburgh honoring members of Allegheny County child abuse investigation units.

WHEREAS, each year more than one million children in the country are documented as child abuse victims, and at least 1,500 children die as a result; and
WHEREAS, specialized departments in Allegheny County dedicate relentless efforts to uncovering child abuse cases and to ending the terrible experiences these children endure; and
WHEREAS, the Allegheny County District Attorney Child Abuse Unit and the Allegheny County Police Detective Unit have worked closely with innumerable divisions in the county and in the City of Pittsburgh to end and prevent child abuse; and
WHEREAS, because of the incredible investigative endeavors of countless individuals in these departments, an innumerable amount of children have been saved from life-threatening situations; and
WHEREAS, in spite of the dedication and the sacrifice of these people, much more still needs to be accomplished to guarantee a childhood free of abuse and victimization;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby commends the District Attorney Child Abuse Unit and the Police Detective Unit for their investigative efforts to eliminate child abuse. Furthermore, this Council supports your mission to end the abuse of innocent children in our county.
