Proclamation recognizing and commending the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, and Duquesne Light upon launching “Shop Mainstreets Pittsburgh: Good Things Come in Small Neighborhoods,” and for their continued commitment to the well-being of the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County as a whole.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed with individuals and organizations dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhoods and the community as a whole; and

WHEREAS, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), along with the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, and Duquesne Light is launching a promotional campaign called “Shop Mainstreets Pittsburgh: Good Things Come in Small Neighborhoods” to encourage shopping in 14 neighborhood Mainstreets business districts; and

WHEREAS, the campaign will run from April 7, 2004 through July 29, 2004 and offers consumers a chance to win $1,000 and discounts on select merchandise at more than 140 local merchants; and

WHEREAS, bolstering the local economy is perhaps more important then ever this year. Shopping locally keeps your favorite merchants in business and supports the overall local economy, which benefits the entire community; and

WHEREAS, Allegheny County recognizes the important role the neighborhood commercial districts play in the overall health of the City's neighborhoods. Mainstreets Pittsburgh offers business district revitalization support to various Pittsburgh neighborhood shopping districts;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council hereby recognizes and commends the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, and Duquesne Light upon launching “Shop Mainstreets Pittsburgh: Good Things Come in Small Neighborhoods” and for their continued commitment to the well-being of the City of Pittsburgh and Al...
