Proclamation recognizing the Blaine Hill Volunteer Fire Company upon the event of their 75th anniversary.

 

Body

WHEREAS, in 1932, several Elizabeth Township residents came together to found the Blaine Hill Volunteer Fire Department in order to protect their community from unnecessary losses caused by fires; and

 

WHEREAS, on Saturday, January 12, 2008, the Blaine Hill VFD will celebrate its 75 years of service with an installation dinner featuring their officers, members, and several distinguished guests; and

 

WHEREAS, since the Blaine Hill VFD was founded, it has grown from housing a single fire truck in a member's garage to their present facilities, which include a garage, social hall, ball field, and pavilion; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1976, the Blaine Hill VFD facilities and equipment suffered severe damage when an accidental fire ravaged through the firehouse.  With the assistance of several local firehouses, the Blaine Hill VFD firefighters were able to rebuild and to continue serving the residents of Elizabeth Township; and

 

WHEREAS, the members of the Blaine Hill VFD strive not only to protect their community, but to educate those they serve through community events, firehouse visits, and a detailed website that includes fire safety news and information; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the residents of Allegheny County, wishes to thank the past and present members of Elizabeth Township's Blaine Hill Fire Department for their dedication and service to our county.  Your willingness to risk your lives in order to protect others is commendable, and as you enter your 76th year of service, we honor you for your dedication to the citizens of our great County of Allegheny.
