WHEREAS, Dorothy's Candies, located in White Oak, Pennsylvania, has created premium hand-dipped chocolates in Western Pennsylvania since 1947; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Dorothy Gastel, founder of Dorothy's Candies, began making chocolates and other confections with her mother to help make ends meet during the Great Depression; and

WHEREAS, today, Dorothy's son, Robert Gastel and his wife, Martella, own the business, having wisely preserved Dorothy's traditions and high standards through her secret recipes which are unparalleled; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy's Candies uses only pure, Swiss chocolate, designed by a Swiss Choclatier, selling more than 75,000 pounds of chocolate per year throughout the United States; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy's Candies is the exclusive choclatier to the Pittsburgh Opera and Dorothy's truffles were featured at the Beverly Hills Film Festival and the Academy Awards;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby join the many loyal customers in Allegheny County and across the nation, in celebrating the momentous occasion of Dorothy's Candies 60^th Anniversary.
