Proclamation congratulating the Borough of Bradford Woods upon the momentous occasion of its 100th anniversary.

WHEREAS, Bradford Woods is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year; in honor of this exciting milestone, a Centennial Celebration will be held on September 12, 2015; and
WHEREAS, the area that became Bradford Woods was an original part of the Depreciation lands purchased by Thomas Bradford of Philadelphia in 1800 and thus was part of Marshall Township; and
WHEREAS, with the hope of maintaining the tranquility of the area, residents petitioned the court to separate from Marshall Township and become a borough. The borough was established May 3, 1915, to allow for the building of a local schoolhouse so children did not have to walk a long distance for learning; and
WHEREAS, the Harmony Short Line was the area’s appeal as an ideal rustic location for summer homes. The North Pittsburgh Realty Company purchased lots and advertised both the setting and the modern model of access; and
WHEREAS, the borough’s peaceful setting; tall, plentiful trees; civic clubs; and organizations are reasons why it is such a desirable community today; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate Bradford Woods upon the momentous occasion of its 100 years as a community, and we wish the borough and its residents continued success in the future.
