Proclamation recognizing the Pennsylvania Black Conference on Higher Education as it embarks on its 2008 conference, to be held in February 2008.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Pennsylvania Black Conference On Higher Education (PBCOHE) is a not-for-profit professional organization whose primary purpose is to develop and provide valuable opportunities for minorities to pursue their professional, social, and personal development in higher education; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the PBCOHE was started in 1970 by the late Honorable K. Leroy Irvis, former Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the PBCOHE is a state-wide organization comprised of professionals from universities, colleges, and other institutions of higher education who work to ensure that underrepresented groups have access to opportunities in higher education within the state; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the PBCOHE has invested in the continuing educational efforts of high school students and college students alike through its scholarship program, as well as thorough student-based leadership conferences, workshops, and special interest events;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of Allegheny County recognizes the Pennsylvania Black Conference On Higher Education for its efforts to improve access to higher education for minorities within the state, so that they may achieve their personal and professional goals.  We wish you continued success as you embark on your 2008 conference.
