Proclamation commending the Pittsburgh Cares organization for its commitment to serving the residents of Allegheny County.
Body
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Cares is a non-profit organization dedicated to being an excellent source for any individual, family, or group who needs to find a cause, place, date and time to volunteer; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Cares inspires volunteerism by organizing flexible and rewarding service projects that impact critical needs in Greater Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Cares currently has a volunteer network of over 4,000 youth and adult volunteers and partners with over 150 community-based organizations; and
WHEREAS, in the past year, Pittsburgh Cares volunteers provided over 45,000 hours of service, saving local service agencies many thousands of dollars; and
WHEREAS, Hands On Pittsburgh 2008 is a week of events promoting volunteerism in a number of different ways including education and hands-on service; and
WHEREAS, Hands On Pittsburgh 2008 events are sponsored by American Eagle Outfitters, Comcast, Dominion, Accenture, and Citizens, among other Pittsburgh-area companies; and
WHEREAS, volunteers will participate in the Pittsburgh Youth Service Summit, the Pittsburgh Service Crawl, the Nonprofit Partner Meeting, the Hands On Pittsburgh Kick Off Party and Hands On Pittsburgh 2008 Service Days;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council commends Pittsburgh Cares for the dedication and commitment they have shown since 1992 for serving those in need in the County of Allegheny.
