A Proclamation commending Dr. Morris Turner on being named “Physician of the Year” for 2005 by Gateway Medical Society.

WHEREAS, each year, the Gateway Medical Society, the local branch of a national group dedicated to promoting the interests of black patients and physicians, honors a local doctor as "Physician of the Year"; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Morris Turner received a scholarship to Morehouse College at age 14, was recruited by and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh minority program, and continued his ob-gyn training at Magee-Womens Hospital; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Turner has been engaged in the specialty of obstetrics and gynecology for over three decades; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Turner has dedicated himself to serving the black community to deliver high quality health care and illness prevention education, especially to underserved communities, since 1973; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Turner is a compassionate, caring physician who is vested in his community and has been awarded the “Physician of the Year” award for 2005;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council hereby salutes and recognizes the accomplishments of Dr. Morris Turner and expresses its appreciation to him for his past and ongoing contributions to the community. We commend him on being named Physician of the Year by Gateway Medical Society.
