Proclamation recognizing Duquesne University Women's Basketball Coach Suzie McConnell-Serio for being inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.

WHEREAS, on June 14, 2008, Pittsburgh native Suzie McConnell-Serio was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, McConnell-Serio has long been recognized as both a world-class basketball player and coach since her beginnings at Seton-LaSalle High School; and
WHEREAS, after graduating from Penn State University, where she set the NCAA Division I record for career assists, McConnell-Serio was a double medal winner as part of the 1988 and 1992 United States Olympic Women's Basketball Teams; and
WHEREAS, McConnell-Serio then went on to play for the WNBA's Cleveland Rockers for three years, followed by more than a decade of coaching the Oakland Catholic High School's Girls' Basketball Team, and later returned to the WNBA, where she coached the Minnesota Linx to back-to-back playoff appearances in 2003 and 2004; and
WHEREAS, throughout her career, McConnell-Serio has received a multitude of awards and recognitions, including being named to USA Today's All-Time Women's Basketball Team, earning a spot as one of Sports Illustrated's Top 50 Pennsylvania Athletes of the Century, and in 2007, was listed in Sports Illustrated as the best 5'-4” basketball player of all time;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council congratulates Ms. Suzie McConnell-Serio on her induction into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. This well-deserved honor is reflective of your dedication to excellence in the sport of basketball. On behalf of the residents of Allegheny County, we are proud to present you with this proclamation and we thank you for your many contributions to Allegheny County's long legacy of sports champions.
