Proclamation declaring Saturday, June 7, 2008 "National United Merchants Beverage Association Day" in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, The National United Merchants Beverage Association (NUMBA) is comprised of African-American licensed beverage accounts organized under state and city-wide chapters; and
WHEREAS, with fifteen chapters across the United States, NUMBA is a direct link between the licensed beverage industry and minority consumers; and
WHEREAS, as “conscious” entrepreneurs, NUMBA retailers contribute thousands of dollars in scholarship grants each year for college-ready, inner-city youth from the communities we serve; and
WHEREAS, the National Executives are: Melvin Cornelious, President; Ashley Shine, Vice-President; Rosemary Y. Allen, National Secretary; O.B. Horn, National Treasurer; Gloria Bell, Financial Secretary; and Columbia Tyler, Parliamentarian; and
WHEREAS, the annual convention will be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from June 7th through June 12th at the Pittsburgh Marriot City Center; and
WHEREAS, the evenings will be highlighted by three premier bands from the Pittsburgh area: Smooth Groove lead singer Stephanie L. Wellons, In the Pocket vocals by Natalie Hogan, and Platinum with the smooth sounds by Darryl and Kim Askew;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council welcomes The National United Merchants Beverage Association (NUMBA) to Pittsburgh and joins with you in celebration of the 2008 NUMBA Trade Show and Convention. Furthermore, we hereby declare Saturday, June 7, 2008 “National United Merchants Beverage Association Day” in Allegheny County.
