Proclamation celebrating the 140th anniversary of the YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is home to world-class community-oriented institutions that consistently demonstrate an unparalleled devotion to improving the lives of citizens;
WHEREAS, for the past 140 years, by constantly striving to empower women and to eliminate racism and sexism, the YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh has established serving the women and teens of Allegheny County as its first purpose; and
WHEREAS, over the course of its impressive history, the YWCA has remained responsible to the communities in which it functions while recognizing the importance of collaborating with community organizations, businesses, and government; and
WHEREAS, the YWCA's mission has improved the lives of countless women in our County by maintaining its unconditional community presence; and
WHEREAS, we thank the organization's unwavering efforts to empower women and fight for equality in the everyday world;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of the County, hereby honors the YWCA's unprecedented 140th year of existence. We salute the YWCA and recognize its ongoing contributions to our communities and their efforts in assisting to improve the overall quality of life in our region.
