Proclamation recognizing the month of May 2004 as “Motorcycle Safety & Awareness Month” in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, motorcycle riding is a popular form of transportation and recreation, with more than 750,000 licensed motorcyclists in Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Allegheny County citizens should recognize the importance and necessity of motorcycle safety so that all motorists and passengers can enjoy safe highways; and
WHEREAS, the Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education is an organization “dedicated to increasing motorist awareness of sharing the road with motorcyclists in a safe and competent manner” to decrease the incidence of motorcycle-related injuries and fatalities; and
WHEREAS, throughout the month of May 2004, the Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education, the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program and the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Dealers Association will continue their advocacy of motorcycle safety.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato, do hereby applaud the Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education for its commitment to promote motorcycle safety to all motorists. Furthermore, I do hereby proclaim May 2004 as “Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month” in Allegheny County and encourage all of our residents to realize the significance of maintaining safe highways.
