Title

Proclamation recognizing and commending the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, the Richard King Mellon Foundation and the Allegheny County Parks Commission for their efforts in obtaining additional acreage for use in South Park.

Body

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is privileged to have organizations, such as the Richard King Mellon Foundation, Western Pennsylvania Conservancy (WPC) and the Allegheny County Parks Commission, that are committed to preserving and supporting our regional assets; and

WHEREAS, through the generosity, assistance and support of the above named organizations, Allegheny County recently acquired 14.14 additional acres of parkland in

South Park, one of our most visited and treasured county parks; and

WHEREAS, the WPC acquired the tract of land with a grant from the Richard King Mellon Foundation, who, in turn, conveyed the land to Allegheny County; and

WHEREAS, both the Richard King Mellon Foundation and the WPC worked closely and cooperatively with the Allegheny County Parks Commission to ensure that the transfer of land was successful and that residents of our community could enjoy additional park space.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato, do hereby graciously thank the Richard King Mellon Foundation, Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and the Allegheny County Parks Commission for their combined efforts to help Allegheny County increase opportunities for South Park, as well as safeguard nature, open spaces and the natural landscape.
