WHEREAS, the Wendy's High School Heisman program was founded in 1994 to recognize the nation's most esteemed high school senior men and women for excellence in academics, community service, and athletics; and
WHEREAS, Brenna Marie Brucker, a resident of Bethel park, Allegheny County, was recently honored as one of two winners of the 2004 Wendy's High School Heisman Award selected from a pool of over 15,000 applicants, an achievement earning her recognition in Sports Illustrated, The Sporting News, and ESPN magazines and on the ESPN2 television network; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Brucker has distinguished herself throughout her academic career and as a result is ranked number one in her class at Bethel Park High School; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Brucker has repeatedly demonstrated both noteworthy initiative and exceptional versatility and, as a result has earned praise for endeavors as diverse as hosting her own television program, editing Half-A-Step Ahead, a magazine with a national circulation, and patenting a brace designed to protect athletes' external oblique muscles from injury ; and
WHEREAS, she has shown a remarkable social conscience in volunteering her time to the Senior Olympics, at nursing homes, reading books on tape for elementary school children, and serving as the co-chairperson of the Sierra Club for Teens; and
WHEREAS, she has exhibited impressive versatility throughout her athletic career, earning a black belt in karate and four varsity letters each in cross country, track and field, and rifle; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Brucker's leadership qualities have equaled her other talents and earned her status as the captain of her cross county, track and field, and rifle squads; and
