Motion of the Council of Allegheny County changing the time of the Regular Meetings of Allegheny County Council to 6:00 p.m.
body
WHEREAS, the County's Home Rule government was established to, among other things, make County government accessible to the taxpayers and residents; and
WHEREAS, although County Council has taken strides to investigate means to make its processes more accessible, such as investigating televising Council meetings, the access to Council meetings remains limited because of the time of the meetings; and
WHEREAS, a 5:00 p.m. meeting time makes citizen participation difficult when the majority of taxpayers and residents work until 5:00 p.m. and then have to get to the City for a meeting that has already begun; and
WHEREAS, pushing County Council meetings back by one hour will help alleviate the difficulty in attending and participating in meetings through the public comment period and will further ensure accessibility for the citizens who wish to be participate in the process.
NOW THEREFORE, IT IS MOVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF ALLEGHENY COUNTY, that all Regular Meetings of the Allegheny County Council shall be held at 6:00 p.m., beginning with the next regular meeting.
