Proclamation recognizing and commending Gloria Smith for her many years of dedicated service and committment to the Community of Upper St. Clair.

Body

WHEREAS, Gloria Smith has been a resident of Upper Saint Clair Township for 46 years, a time during which she has served as a School Director, as both President and Vice President of the Upper Saint Clair School Board, as a Member and Vice President of the Upper Saint Clair Board of Commissioners, and as a Board Member, Vice President and President of the South Hills Area Council of Governments; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Smith has also served the County in activities as diverse as assisting in the development of a Special Education Program during her time as a board member of the Allegheny Intermediate Unit and serving as a member of the Allegheny County Home Rule Charter Advisory Committee; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Smith's exemplary public service record is augmented by her achievements in the course of a 40 year tenure as a Methodist Church School teacher and as a Board Member and Treasurer of Outreach Teen and Family Counseling; and

 

WHEREAS, her activities within her community have garnered her recognition for decades, as shown by her recognition with the 1967 Republican USC Outstanding Citizen Award and by her inclusion in the 2000-2005 editions of Who's Who of American Women;

 

                     

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize Ms. Gloria Smith for her impact on this community and its citizens.  Ms. Smith's commitment serves as an inspiration to us all, and we extend our sincerest thanks in appreciation for her years of dedication in service to the individuals and families of her community.
