Proclamation recognizing and commending Shelly Sponholz on the occasion of being named to the 50 Best Women in Business in Pennsylvania by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.

WHEREAS, each year, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, in association with the business journals of Pennsylvania, honors the 50 Best Women in Business in Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Shelly Sponholz, Vice President of Real Estate Development and Asset Management for Giant Eagle, Inc., has been engaged in real estate development and corporate management since 1985; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Sponholz has dedicated herself to improving living conditions on Pittsburgh's North Side by both by volunteering to serve on the Board of Directors of the emerging Community Development Financial Institution and by serving as the Treasurer of the Northside Community Development Fund since 2000; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Sponholz has also volunteered her time to conduct real estate feasibility studies for specific properties and to organize meetings with developers for the East Ohio Street Business Development Group since 2002; and
WHEREAS Shelly Sponholz has been awarded a listing as one of the 50 Best Women in Business for 2005;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council recognizes and commends Shelly Sponholz on the occasion of being named to the 50 Best Women in Business. Allegheny County Council hereby salutes and recognizes the accomplishments of Ms. Sponholz and expresses its appreciation to her for her past and ongoing contributions to the community, and for her efforts in assisting to improve the overall quality of life of this region.
