Proclamation declaring June 17, 2005 as "Robert Page Day" in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, the 2004-2005 season is Robert Page's 26th as the Music Director of the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh and that, during Mr. Page's tenure, the Mendelssohn Choir has achieved national and international renown as one of the nation's premiere choral ensembles; and

WHEREAS, the American Record Review has called Mr. Page a “national treasure,” a title that is most appropriate in consideration of his experience conducting symphony orchestras, opera and musical theater productions throughout the country; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Page's reputation truly transcends local or even national bounds, as shown by his experiences conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Luxembourg RTL Orchestra, the Czech State Philharmonic, the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, the State Orchestra of St. Petersburg, and the Halle State Philharmonic Orchestra in performances in the Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, Germany, Russia, Switzerland, Spain and France; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Page's work can be heard on a variety of recordings issued by major record labels including Columbia, London, RCA, Telarc and Decca, and these recordings have earned him two Grammy awards and eight Grammy nominations, as well as the Grand Prix du Disc and a Prix Mondial de Montreaux;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize Robert Page for his service to and impact on this community and its citizens. Mr. Page's commitment serves as an inspiration to us all, and we extend our sincerest thanks to him for his consistent devotion both to sharing the joy he takes in music and to enriching the cultural heritage of the region, nation and world; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that, in recognition of and gratitude for Mr. Page's many achievements and contributions, the Allegheny County Council does hereby proclaim June 17th, 2005 as “Robert Page Day” in Allegheny County.
