Proclamation recognizing and commending Allegheny County Port Authority Police Officers Thomas Walsh and Jason Haberman; and Pittsburgh Police Officer Joe Simunovic for their bravery and skill in rescuing a man who had fallen into the Allegheny River.

Body

WHEREAS, on April 18, 2005, Allegheny County Port Authority Police Officers Thomas Walsh and Jason Haberman were on duty in the City of Pittsburgh; and

 

WHEREAS, Officers Walsh and Haberman monitored communications that indicated that a man had fallen into the Allegheny River, and that Pittsburgh Police officer Joe Simunovic, the officer who had first responded to the incident, required assistance; and

 

WHEREAS, Officers Walsh and Haberman immediately responded to the situation, located the site of the mishap, and assisted Officer Simunovic in pulling the victim from the river; and

 

                     WHEREAS, Officers Walsh, Haberman, and Simunovic exhibited exceptional bravery and professionalism in the best tradition of the Allegheny County Port Authority Police and the Pittsburgh Police, while each man simultaneously personified selflessness, commitment, and the highest of humanitarian ideals;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize Officers Thomas Walsh, Jason Haberman and Joe Simunovic for their dedication to their community and its citizens; their bravery and skill in successfully rescuing the victim in this incident are only surpassed by their devotion to preserving human life.  Through their respective lifetimes of dedication and professionalism, they have helped improve the lives of countless individuals and families, literally saving a life in this case.  For these achievements, Council bestows its highest commendation upon Officers Walsh, Haberman and Simunovic, and expresses its sincerest gratitude for their service.
