WHEREAS, Allegheny County created the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) in September of 1966 to provide quality, affordable education that was accessible to the community; its mission today has been expanded to provide leadership in workforce training, and to support the economic development of the region; and

WHEREAS, CCAC is a diverse institution that reflects the demographic and cultural characteristics of our community and that focuses upon helping the region grow and prosper by providing opportunities to students and businesses, not only those living and operating here, but also those that may live and operate here; and

WHEREAS, the administration, faculty, and staff are dedicated to building strong partnerships and championing solutions to important issues that affect the region and are already working proactively with hundreds of businesses and organizations; CCAC has developed customized training for more than 50 regional employers and trains more than 18,000 employees annually; and

WHEREAS, recognizing that a skilled workforce is a vital component of the nation's and the region's economy, the college's Center for Professional Development is an enterprise that has the tools to work closely with employers and economic development officials in a competitive, global environment; in addition, 90% of its graduates remain in Allegheny County, making that training even more valuable; and
