St. Basil Church

This Certificate of Recognition is awarded to St. Basil Church, located in Carrick, Pennsylvania, in honor of their 100th anniversary.  The newly installed bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, Bishop David Zubik will serve as celebrant at the Mass on Sunday, October 14, 2007.  Twelve priests who served at St. Basil or were natives of the parish will be on the altar and members of the Sisters of Divine Providence, whose order taught in the former parish school, will be in attendance. After the service, a luncheon in the church hall will serve some 350 parishioners.  The celebration also marks the start of a $1.2 million renovation campaign that will make improvements to the historic church.  A Centennial Committee compiled histories of the parish and of the church's stained glass windows.  Father James Torquato, pastor of the church, helped organize and coordinate this remarkable event. Allegheny County Council is proud to recognize St. Basil Parish, celebrating its 100 years of service to the residents of this County through education, spiritual guidance, social service, nurturing, outreach and worship and does hereby wish all members of St. Basil Parish continued success and lifelong happiness.  This Council recognizes and honors St. Basil Church on the occasion of their 100th anniversary, and we wish the Church and its congregation continued blessings and express the pride Allegheny County takes in the Church's contributions and services to all citizens of Allegheny County.
