Proclamation celebrating the 50th anniversary of Lincoln Borough.

WHEREAS, Lincoln Borough was initially settled in 1768 by the pioneer family of Mary Creigh; and
WHEREAS, in 1869, after separating from Elizabeth Township, Lincoln Township was formed and named in honor of former President Abraham Lincoln; and
WHEREAS, between 1892 and 1912, residents of Lincoln Township began sectioning off the area into what are now present-day Port Vue, Liberty, and Glassport Boroughs; and
WHEREAS, on April 10, 1958, a petition was filed with the Allegheny County Courts to create Lincoln Borough and on June 2, 1958, Lincoln Borough was officially declared as a borough in Allegheny County; and
WHEREAS, Lincoln Borough will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Saturday, July 19, 2008 with an all-day community event at Breznay Ballfield that will feature NoMaD, Pittsburgh-area winner of the Next Big Star competition, as well as food and beverages, a petting zoo, pony rides, and additional entertainment from Tuika's Polynesian Island Magic and Mike the Balloon Guy;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council joins with Lincoln Borough in celebrating its 50th anniversary. We are proud to share this momentous occasion with you and wish you continued success throughout your next 50 years
