Proclamation celebrating the Community Empowerment Association's Black Family Reunion Festival.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Community Empowerment Association, Incorporated (CEA) is a Pittsburgh-based organization that seeks to build, foster, and empower individuals through jobs, education, housing, economic development, and family support services; and

 

                     WHEREAS, CEA has sponsored a number of local events throughout its 15-year history, including the Black Family Reunion Festival, which will take place August 2 and August 3, 2008 in Mellon Park; and

 

                     WHEREAS, past attractions at the event have included the “Peace in the Hood” Three-on-Three Basketball and Slam Dunk Tournament, performances of dance, jazz, hip hop, R&B, and spoken word, vendors, a family feud game, panel discussions, workshops, network tents, health screenings, mountain climbing, a moon jump, a petting zoo, and arts and crafts for children; and

                     

WHEREAS, this year's event is expected to draw between 7,000 and 12,000 residents from the greater Pittsburgh area, a true testament to the value of bringing together people of all ages to recognize and celebrate the many gifts and talents that our Black community has to offer; and

 

WHEREAS, sponsors of this year's event include Reebok, PNC Bank, Eat 'N Park Restaurant, the Pittsburgh Housing Authority, and the Greater Pittsburgh YWCA, among many others;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council joins with Community Empowerment Association, Incorporated in celebrating the 2008 Black Family Reunion Festival.  Furthermore, we thank all those who participated in organizing the festival and wish you a successful event.
