Proclamation honoring in memoriam Ms. Bernadette C. Turner for her significant contributions benefitting African Americans in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.

         WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed with individuals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhood and the community as a whole; individuals such as the late Ms. Bernadette C. Turner (1971-2013), who has placed her stamp of character and hard work throughout the community, as both a public servant and strong leader; and
      
      WHEREAS, Ms. Turner, of Lincoln-Lemington, served as the project director of the East Side Community Collaboration in Homewood, before joining Addison Behavioral Care as its executive director; and
 
      WHEREAS, while head of Addison Behavioral Care, Ms. Turner produced balanced budgets, raised hundreds of thousands of dollars and initiated and executed a strategic plan to help those struggling with substance abuse; and
 
      WHEREAS, in 2009, Ms. Turner co-founded the African American Leadership Association with Ms. Darcel Madkins to help minorities attain leadership positions; Among the many boards she served on, Ms. Turner co-chaired the Dignity and Respect Campaign of Greater Pittsburgh; and
 
      WHEREAS, in 2010, Ms. Turner made Pittsburgh Magazine and PUMP's "40 under 40" list of young leaders in the city; she worked tirelessly as an advocate for the community, and she helped to create access and opportunities for countless African Americans;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby honor the late Bernadette C. Turner for her selfless service and leadership. Ms. Turner is an inspiration to us all and, while we cannot hope to replace her, we can honor her memory by commending and emulating the spirit of her dedication.
