Proclamation congratulating The Honorable Edward R. Slater upon the occasion of his retirement after 50 years of service as a Council Member and Mayor of Liberty Borough.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed with individuals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhood and the community as a whole; individuals such as Mr. Edward R. Slater, who has placed his stamp of character and hard work throughout the community, as both a public servant and strong leader; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Slater is retiring from the Borough of Liberty after serving 50 years as an elected official; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Slater, who started out as a councilman and has served as Liberty Borough's Mayor since 1980, knows the majority of the borough's residents on a first-name basis; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure with Liberty Borough, Mr. Slater has used his considerable talents, energies and resources to make the community a great place to live in, work in and visit; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Slater acted always in the best interests of the constituents of Liberty Borough;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate The Honorable Edward R. Slater upon the occasion of his retirement from the Borough of Liberty, and we thank him for his genuine and unwavering public service. Furthermore, we join his family and friends in celebrating this momentous occasion, and we wish Mr. Slater all the best in his future endeavors.
