Allegheny County Council is proud to present this Certificate of Recognition to The Honorable Mark Brentley, Sr. for his service to the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education. The Board is the policy-making body for the school district, which operates 65 schools with 5,180 full-time employees and serves 29,445 students with an operating budget of $533.6 million. Mr. Brentley was first elected to represent District 8 in 1999. District 8 schools include Pittsburgh Allegheny K-5/6-8; Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12; Pittsburgh Conroy; Pittsburgh Grandview K-5; Pittsburgh King Pre-K-8; Pittsburgh Manchester Pre-K-8; and Pittsburgh Oliver Citywide Academy. Mr. Brentley has chaired the Business Affairs, Head Start Liaison, Technology, and Business/Finance committees. He currently serves as a liaison to Minority Business Enterprises/Women Business Enterprises (MBE/WBE). He is also a delegate to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association. He is the founder and chair of "Take a Father to School Day," an initiative to engage males who play a role in students' lives. We recognize Mr. Brentley for his dedicated service to the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education, and we thank him for his commitment to ensuring the best education possible for every student.
